Christiane Druml studied law at the University of Vienna. She is holding the UNESCO Chair on Bioethics at the Medical University of Vienna and serves as Director of the Collections and History of Medicine of the Medical University of Vienna. In 2007, she has been appointed President of the Austrian National Bioethics Commission. Furthermore, she is a member of the Medical Council of the Republic of Austrian and of the scientific council of the Agence nationale de sécurité du medicament et des produits de la santé (ANSM) France.
Prior to her appointment as Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs at the Medical University of Vienna from 2011 to 2015, Christiane Druml was had been the managing director of the Ethics Committee of the Medical University of Vienna (1992-2011). From 2008 to 2015, she was also a member of the UNESCO International Bioethics Committee (IBC).
